What you were taught in school about Malcolm X was grossly misrepresented. This was a great man of unparalleled conviction and an inspiration to any person who could see him for who he truly was. He was misguided in his early days by a dangerous cult, but unlike many he was able to break free from that cult. He made a trip to Mecca and returned with his true purpose, message, and meaning. Sadly that cult executed him. The FBI more than likely helped facilitate or otherwise had knowledge of the assassination through their COINTELPRO program.
